As a law enforcement service, Avsec requires officers to maintain
a high standard of honesty and integrity. When we recruit new
staff, we do not employ candidates with any serious or recent
convictions (even of a minor nature). All applicants are vetted
by the New Zealand Police.
This job requires sensible, practical people, who have a good
sense of judgement and are able to communicate with people at
all levels.
You need to be fit and healthy. Because of the rigours of the
job, Avsec cannot employ applicants with certain conditions. These
include colour blindness, obesity, high blood pressure or back
problems.
All short listed applicants will be required to have a comprehensive
examination, as well as eye and hearing tests, an ECG, a chest
x-ray and a urine test for drug use.
Once you have successfully joined the Aviation Security Service,
you will be expected to honour a Service Code of Conduct, which,
among other things, requires disciplinary action to be taken if
you are convicted of any offence, or breach the Code in any way.
This includes drink driving and some other serious traffic offences,
or use of illegal drugs, including cannabis or marijuana.
As an equal opportunity employer, the service has a multicultural
workforce and nearly half of our officers are women. The Service
has a collective employment agreement.
A good grasp of the English language is very important, but knowledge
of another language/culture can be a definite advantage. Aviation
Security prides itself on being a good employer and has a number
of policies in place to encourage equal operations for all employees.
