Overseas, the most preferred weapon of terror used by terrorists is the bomb. Even though the incidents of bombings in New Zealand are reasonably small, especially when compared to incidents of bombing in other countries, the New Zealand Government has signed international agreements and protocols which require it to provide a certain level of security to international aircraft departing from New Zealand and flying to other countries.

The Aviation Security Service employes a number of specially trained dog teams. These are stationed at each of the major international airports and includes a number of dogs and handlers.
